Hong Kong Government Embracing Cutting-Edge Technologies for Smart City Development
The Hong Kong government is committed to spearheading the development of a smart city by embracing cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and Web3. This was highlighted by Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2023 Presentation Ceremony. The event aimed to acknowledge and promote outstanding local information and communications technology (ICT) inventions and applications.
During the ceremony, Wong presented the prestigious Award of the Year to KRIP Limited, while Secretary for Innovation, Technology, and Industry Professor Sun Dong awarded the Grand Awards in eight different categories. KRIP Limited also triumphed in the FinTech category, surpassing other winners with its ground-breaking entry, the krip HK.
Wong commended the winners for their innovative initiatives, which demonstrate their capacity and eagerness to push the boundaries of excellence. He emphasized that their cutting-edge solutions and applications have a positive impact on society, positioning Hong Kong as a global ICT hub.
The Hong Kong ICT Awards has been a highly regarded annual event since its inception in 2006. Beyond recognizing local innovations, the awards provide a platform for winners to enter the Chinese mainland and overseas markets with their products.
Chairman of the Grand Judging Panel, Professor Freddy Boey, President of City University of Hong Kong, congratulated the awardees for their exceptional contributions in improving people’s lives. He noted that the winners’ innovative solutions and groundbreaking initiatives set a benchmark of excellence, inspiring and motivating the entire ICT community. Boey expressed particular enthusiasm for the Student Innovation Grand Award, acknowledging Hong Kong’s talented student body and the importance of guiding young people towards their dreams.
As the Hong Kong government continues its efforts to establish the city as a smart city, these recognitions reinforce its commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies. By embracing AI, blockchain, Web3, and other advanced technologies, Hong Kong aims to accelerate the development of its digital economy and bolster its position as a global leader in ICT innovation.
