Google has launched a new feature that allows online shoppers in the US to try clothes on different models using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The virtual try-on feature uses AI technique called diffusion to generate a realistic image of a person wearing a particular outfit. It is designed to show how clothing drapes, folds, clings, stretches, and forms wrinkles and shadows on real models in various poses. The models range from XXS to 4XL in size and have different ethnicities, skin tones, bodies, and hair types. The feature is currently available for women’s tops across brands such as Anthropologie, Everlane, Loft, and H&M. Google will add more products, including men’s tops, later this year. The tool helps overcome the longstanding issue of not being able to see how an item of clothing looks on you before buying it, a challenge that retailers have been trying to address for years.
