Google for Startups Growth Academy has announced its 2023 cohort of AI-powered health startups, including five innovative African companies. These startups will utilize AI technology to transform healthcare by addressing challenges such as early disease detection and improving information accessibility. The selection process began in May and resulted in the selection of 30 transformative startups from across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In addition to the African startups, the selected startups from outside Africa include Biocam, which has introduced a capsule that scans the digestive system in real-time for potential threats, Mindstep with an app focused on enhancing brain and mental health, and Rayscape, providing radiologists with a digital assistant equipped with AI tools for better decision-making.
This initiative by Google aligns with its broader vision to support startups and accelerate their growth. In August, Google announced the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program, a 10-week equity-free accelerator aimed at supporting African startups using artificial intelligence to address local challenges.
Since 2018, Google has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries through the Google for Startups Accelerator programs.
