Snapchat is rolling out its AI chatbot My AI to all users, giving them a virtual companion to communicate with. Announced during the Snap Partner Summit, the global rollout introduces several new features such as the ability to include My AI in group conversations, ask for recommendations, and exchange Snaps and replies in chat. Snapchat+ subscribers can also name their AI and customize a Bitmoji avatar for it.
OpenAI’s GPT technology powers My AI, which is design to respond to users in a conversational manner. Unlike text generations that generate essays, My AI was developed to reply to Snaps as if it were a person messaging a friend. For added distinction, My AI’s name also has a sparkle next to it when in group conversations, unaffected by if the user is subscribed or not.
In addition, Snapchat+ subscribers can have some extra fun with the AI chatbot. Rather than the regular text responses to Snaps, they can receive AI-generated images as well. For example, if they send an image of a pumpkin, My AI might respond with an image of pumpkin soup. Of course, the program has been designed to adhere to Snapchat’s Community Guidelines and will keep its responses age-appropriate by taking into account the user’s age.
My AI is an ambitious project by Snapchat to build an AI-powered virtual assistant that has human-like qualities. With a global rollout, users from around the world now have access to this new and exciting feature, allowing them to connect in a more natural way and fostering a strong sense of friendship and connection. This initiative shows Snapchat’s commitment to creating an environment of companionship and inclusivity, that every user will be able to reap the benefits of.
