According to a recent study conducted by the Reuters Institute and Oxford University, the use of generative AI tools like ChatGPT is not as widespread as one might think. Despite the growing popularity of such products in the news, the research found that only a small percentage of individuals are regular users of these tools.
The study, which involved 6,000 respondents from several countries, revealed that OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the most widely used generative AI tool, followed by Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. However, the researchers found that only a very small minority of those surveyed are currently using these tools regularly for various tasks.
Interestingly, the study also showed that younger people are more likely to be using generative AI tools on a regular basis. The data revealed that 56% of individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 have used ChatGPT at least once, compared to only 16% of those aged 55 and over.
Moreover, the research team highlighted that while some individuals have used generative AI tools to obtain information or create different types of media, there is still uncertainty among the public about whether these tools will ultimately have a positive or negative impact on society.
Moving forward, the researchers predict that the use of generative AI tools will likely be driven by a combination of professional adaptation and increased integration of these tools into widely used platforms like social media and search engines. Despite some skepticism, younger individuals and those with higher levels of formal education generally hold a more positive view of this rapidly evolving technology.
