Forza Motorsport is a popular series known for its stunning graphics and commitment to realism in virtual racing. The latest entry, developed by Turn 10 Studios, promises to take this to the next level by revolutionizing its use of machine learning.
During a hands-off demonstration at the Xbox Games Showcase, the game’s general manager, Dan Greenawalt, explained that machine learning had been applied to build time in for the newest iteration. The technology is being used to train the game’s AI-controlled characters, called Drivatars, to control the car and then optimize the lines they follow.
This process has allowed Turn 10 Studios to train massive amounts of data, ensuring every car with every upgrade, and all tuning options can train the controller so that the AI can make the car do everything it wants it to do. The result is the fastest AI with no cheats or hacks, maximizing the use of the technology in a non-arbitrary way.
Forza Motorsport’s creative director, Chris Esaki, explained that accessibility has been a priority for the series since its inception. In keeping with this theme, Forza Motorsport continues to offer sophisticated assist options and has evolved further with additional audio assists that help streamline the process more than ever before, making it the most accessible racing simulation ever.
Forza Motorsport’s creators have promised to reveal more details on its use of machine learning and accessibility features in the coming months. The series continues to set the standard for racing simulations and promises to deliver its most realistic racing competition yet.
