Elon Musk, the man behind Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, is reportedly looking to create a new artificial intelligence firm and is busy recruiting a team of researchers and engineers to build it up. The firm, which is reportedly set to compete with OpenAI, is said to be equipped with thousands of NVIDIA GPU processors. Musk, who was once a major financial backer at OpenAI, has ruptured ties with the company due to issues with progress, direction, and control.
The developments come shortly after Amazon declared its entry into the generative AI space. Musk, who has expressed his concerns about the dangers of AI, also joined an open letter in March, calling for a six-month halt to any research on AI models more sophisticated than OpenAI’s GPT-4.
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research laboratory founded by tech luminaries such as American programmer and entrepreneur Greg Brockman, American technology entrepreneur Sam Altman, and American entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk. Founded in 2015, the company focuses on learning algorithms that can smell, perceive, understand and react to their environment. The entity is known for its development of GPT-4, an advanced natural language processing model. Microsoft recently undertook an initiative to invest billions into OpenAI’s advanced research initiative.
On the other hand, Elon Musk is an engineer, entrepreneur, industrial designer, investor and philanthropist. He is the founder, CEO, and chief designer of SpaceX, co-founder of Tesla, Inc., and founder of The Boring Company. He was also a co-founder of the nonprofit artificial intelligence research company OpenAI, which he left to form his own AI firm. He is a global icon and one of the most influential people in the world. He has also voiced his concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. Musk has also made headlines recently for his interest in developing a chip implant for humans and for his outspoken views on climate change.
