Elon Musk Launches Artificial Intelligence Firm X.AI to Compete with Microsoft OpenAI

Date:

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has created a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) company called X.AI in Nevada and Texas. Musk is the only director of this company and Jared Birchall from Musk’s family office acts as a Secretary. The company has been authorized to sell 100 million shares for a private firm.

The primary aim of X.AI is to challenge Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the creator of the well-known ChatGPT AI chatbot. This project was initially funded by Musk but he had to quit the company soon afterwards. That said, ChatGPT and GPT-4 have recently become quite notorious worldwide.

In March, some top AI researchers, including Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple) and Musk himself, expressed their concerns over the further development of AI systems and expressed the need to pause the procedure for six months. This request was prompted by the failed attempt of Elon Musk to take control of OpenAI in the early months of 2018. He pledged to donate $1 billion yet fulfilled only a tenth part of the promise.

At the moment OpenAI values at around $20 billion and is considered to be the most successful AI-driven company in the world. Yet, it looks like Elon Musk is determined to challenge the Silicon Valley giant and so he established his own AI-based firm.

The company called X.AI is set to bring about a revolution in the way AI is utilized and developed. With Musk’s extensive experience in various business-related projects, as well as Jared Birchall’s extensive know-how, it is safe to assume that the firm might actually succeed. But that remains to be seen in the near future.
