Egypt Woos Top Electronics Companies in Bid to Boost Industry
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, recently embarked on a visit to California, United States, where he met with officials from several leading electronics companies and organizations. The purpose of the meetings was to discuss investment opportunities and incentives offered by the Digital Egypt projects, as well as to highlight the potential of the Egyptian market and its talented workforce in the field of electronics.
During his visit, Minister Talaat held bilateral meetings with key executives from companies like Qualcomm, Silicon Labs, Broadcom, and Infineon Technologies. He also met with representatives from Dell Engineering and Cisco. In these discussions, the minister outlined the Ministry’s plans to develop the outsourcing industry and attract international companies to establish centers in Egypt, particularly in the field of electronics and semiconductor design. He emphasized the activities of the Electronic Design Center in the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, as well as the training and entrepreneurship initiatives in the Digital Egypt Creativity Centers.
In his meetings, Minister Talaat encouraged the company officials to visit Egypt for further discussions and to witness firsthand the capabilities of young Egyptian talents in related fields. He also highlighted the ongoing projects in Egypt, such as the opening of a customer experience center, expansion of integrated electronic circuits design, and collaboration with training institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to enhance capacity building.
The officials from the electronics companies expressed their keen interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt and praised the skills and competencies of Egyptian professionals in the fields of communications and information technology. They also expressed their willingness to benefit from the investment incentives provided by the Egyptian government.
Furthermore, Minister Talaat met with David Bennett, Director of Operations at Tenstorrent, a company specializing in semiconductor design for artificial intelligence solutions. During the meeting, Talaat extended an invitation to establish a research and development center in Egypt, highlighting the availability of trained young professionals, a favorable business environment, and robust infrastructure for communications and information technology.
Additionally, the minister held a meeting with Judy Shelton, CEO of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), and several members of the organization. He presented the Egypt Manufactures Electronics strategy, which aims to localize the electronics industry and develop key areas such as semiconductors, embedded systems, and electronics design. The cooperation with the GSA through its regional business unit in Egypt was discussed, with an emphasis on supporting and advancing the electronics industry in Egypt.
Judy Shelton praised the skills and competencies of Egyptian professionals in semiconductors and electronics, emphasizing that Egypt has a talented workforce capable of working in global markets. She also expressed her interest in strengthening the partnership with Egypt.
The GSA is a crucial industrial organization that brings together leaders and experts in semiconductors, software, solutions, and electronic systems. With over 300 corporate members, including more than 120 government companies, the GSA plays a vital role in shaping the future of the electronics industry.
