Dubai Unveils AI-Powered Facial Recognition Robot for Bicycle Violations

Date:

Dubai has recently deployed AI-powered robot police to monitor traffic violations committed by cyclists and electric scooter riders. The robotic officer, equipped with facial recognition technology, will be patrolling the city’s public beach area to crack down on offenders.

During a trial period initiated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the robot will focus on recording violations such as cycling on unauthorized paths, improper parking of bikes and scooters, and overloading vehicles with multiple passengers. Despite its ability to identify offenders, fines will not be issued during the initial phase as authorities concentrate on refining the accuracy of facial recognition detection.

Hamad Alafeefi, the director of RTA’s Enterprise Command and Control Department, explained that the robot utilizes continuous monitoring through a camera and AI-based analysis to detect and report violations. Additionally, the robot is equipped with motion sensors to ensure safe maneuvering on the streets.

Looking ahead, the RTA plans to explore the integration of different technologies to enhance the robot’s capabilities during the next phase of testing. This initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to utilizing innovative solutions to improve road safety and enforce traffic regulations effectively.
