Dr Chatbot: Your Personal Online Medical Consultant

Chatbots equipped with language models have been tested by researchers at the University of California in San Diego to check if they are capable of across-the-board medical diagnoses and found that AI chatbots may be the solution to improving healthcare delivery. The team used Reddit’s healthcare forum, r/AskDocs, to evaluate Bot ChatGPT’s abililties to respond to over 200 medical questions from simple general questions to more complex cases that needed a detailed solution. The chatbot’s responses were compared with those of healthcare professionals, and it turned out that the bot provided seven times more empathetic responses, while the quality of its answers was twice more reliable than those doctors provided, highlighting the potential use of chatbots to improve patient outcomes in the future.
