China is already ahead in utilizing cutting-edge technology. Now, they are looking to use AI with core values of socialism. The Cyberspace Administration of China has published draft regulations with the intention of getting feedback from the public on the best way to regulate generative AI systems in the country.
This set of guidelines specifically states that these AI systems should be in line with core values of socialism. Chinese tech giants, such as China Telecom, Tencent and Huawei, are competing for the top spot in this field by launching their own AI-powered ChatGPT rivals.
China Telecom, founded in 1997, is a state-owned telecommunications operator with extensive operations in the country. It provides a wide range of high-quality products and services, including fixed and mobile networks, cloud and big data applications, as well as ICT services. It holds a wide range of telco gateways and tv gateways and is committed to promoting 5G networks and creating a digital life.
Chen Wenbo serves as the Chairman, Communist Party Secretary and General Manager of China Telecom. He previously served as the Vice Mayor of Chongqing and the Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee. Chen holds a master’s degree in economics and efficiently manages the operations of the company. He spearheaded operations ranging from the national information network industry chain and the development of 5G applications in the automotive and medical industries, to the promotion and construction of a new generation of information infrastructure.
These rules appear to be drafted with the intention of encouraging the growth of China’s AI tech. While this puts domestic AI firms in competition with international players such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft, it also signals a potential future of heightened regulations and restrictions that could be placed on foreign AI-based systems in the country.
