Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor to Open on October 21, Equipped with AI-Enabled Security Screeners
The highly anticipated Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor is set to open its 17-kilometer priority section on October 21. The inauguration will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, marking a significant milestone in advancing efficient transportation in the region.
The key highlight of this corridor is the implementation of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) for the security screening of commuters. This cutting-edge system aims to prevent any suspicious items from entering the stations, ensuring the safety of all passengers. In addition, the luggage scanners at the station entry gates have also been equipped with artificial intelligence, bringing an advanced level of security and convenience for travelers.
Passenger services will commence on October 21, running between the hours of 6 am and 11 pm. Initially, trains will be available every 15 minutes, with the possibility of increasing the frequency based on future requirements. The priority section, spanning from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, includes five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. Each RAPIDX train will consist of six coaches, including a premium coach. Notably, one coach in every train is reserved exclusively for women, adjacent to the premium coach. Moreover, other coaches will have reserved seats for women, specially-abled individuals, and senior citizens.
To ensure thorough security measures, the RRTS stations are equipped with dual-view generator X-ray baggage inspection systems. These scanners enable the screening of both the upper and lower sections of each bag, displaying clear images on a computer screen. In the event of a suspicious or prohibited item, the conveyor belt automatically stops, preventing the passage of such items. The Security Control Centre (SCC) located at the Depot plays a crucial role in monitoring the entire Priority Section 24×7 through CCTV cameras. This facility facilitates swift responses and communication with relevant stations and officers.
For the comfort and convenience of passengers, the RAPIDX trains boast a range of commuter-centric features. These include ergonomically designed 2×2 transverse seating, spacious standing areas, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, laptop/mobile charging facilities, dynamic route maps, auto control ambient lighting systems, and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Additionally, one general coach in each train is equipped to accommodate a medical stretcher and a wheelchair. This provision has been made to benefit patients traveling from Meerut to Delhi for medical treatment.
The RRTS ticketing system is compliant with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), offering convenience and seamless travel experiences for passengers. The integration of this feature aligns with the goal of promoting efficient and interconnected transportation networks.
As the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor prepares to open, residents and commuters eagerly anticipate the multitude of benefits it will bring. With a rapid operational speed of 160 km/h, the fully-airconditioned RAPIDX trains will not only provide a time-saving alternative to road travel but also significantly reduce congestion and traffic on major routes. This advanced transit system is poised to revolutionize regional commuting, offering a safe, comfortable, and efficient mode of transportation for all passengers.
In conclusion, the imminent opening of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor showcases India’s commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure. The integration of AI-enabled security systems and commuter-centric amenities reflects a forward-thinking approach in delivering quality services to the public. As this project nears completion, all eyes are on the transformative impact it is expected to have on the lives of countless individuals in the region.
