CD Projekt Red has unveiled exciting new features and content for Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming expansion DLC, Phantom Liberty. The highly anticipated expansion was showcased at Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live event, providing fans with a detailed look at the overhauled gameplay and a plethora of new additions. The expansion is set to introduce vehicular combat, an improved skill system, and a revamped customization mechanic.
One of the most significant reveals in the gameplay trailer was the inclusion of vehicular combat, a feature that was previously teased but absent in the base game. The expansion will introduce a variety of new vehicles, ranging from sleek sports cars to heavily armored tanks. Car chases will offer a renewed experience with a revamped police system, addressing one of the base game’s shortcomings. Players will be able to utilize mounted weapons on their vehicles and even fire rockets at pursuers, adding an exciting dynamic to the gameplay.
The skill trees in Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a major overhaul with the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion and the 2.0 update. The level cap will be increased, surpassing the current limit of 50; however, the maximum level has not been specified by CD Projekt Red. The game will also move away from percentage-based passive buffs, with skills such as Reflex gaining new abilities and moves. For example, players will now be able to deflect bullets with melee weapons, as showcased in the gameplay footage.
Furthermore, the expansion will introduce a brand-new category called Relics, which will occupy the empty sixth slot in the current base game. These Relic skills will enhance the Cyberware system and allow players to develop unique builds. Relic skills will require unique Relic points to upgrade and offer new ways to utilize and expand the already existing Cyberware, such as the forearm Mantis Blades.
Phantom Liberty will also bring significant changes to the game’s customization mechanics. Over 100 new items, including weapons, vehicles, and cyberware enhancements, will be added to provide players with more variety. In conjunction with the overhaul of Cyberware upgrades, players will have the opportunity to completely reset their character’s Cyberware through a special procedure early in the DLC. This reset will grant players greater control over their builds, allowing them to add or remove active, passive, and conditional abilities. The range of new items will enable players to install more Cyberware than before.
The Phantom Liberty DLC is set to launch on September 26, promising an extensive range of new features and content for players to enjoy. CD Projekt Red’s commitment to improving the game through overhauls and additions bodes well for the future of Cyberpunk 2077. Fans can anticipate a thrilling expansion that will reshape their gaming experience with vehicular combat, revamped skills, and enhanced customization options.
