A care home in Cumbria is piloting a new artificial intelligence (AI) technology that can detect and prevent falls. The Nobi smart lamp system is currently being trialed at Hartland House in Milnthorpe, which is run by the Abbeyfield Lakeland Extra Care Society. If a resident falls, the smart lamp immediately notifies the care team and sends an image of where and how the fall occurred. Additionally, the lamp detects changes in walking pace, stride and posture to predict potential risks of falling, as well as illuminating the entire room when a resident stands up. The pilot is being funded by NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, who hope the technology will reduce pressure on care staff and the NHS.
