Companies Prohibiting Use of ChatGPT in Workplace – Apple, Goldman Sachs, and Samsung included

Date:

Apple, Goldman Sachs, Samsung, and many other companies are already implementing bans or restrictions on their employees using the chatbot ChatGPT in the workplace. The bans and restrictions are mainly due to perceived security risks which could lead to confidential information being leaked. Examples of this looming security risk have already been exhibited by Samsung, who saw an employee leak confidential code sources and meeting recordings while using the OpenAI-backed chatbot.

Apple, who recently hired Google veteran John Giannandrea to head their A.I. efforts, made it clear that employee use of the ChatGPT chatbot was to be restricted. Additionally, access to other automated software programs such as Copilot, a code-writing development tool from GitHub and OpenAI, were also restricted. However, there are still some organizations considering the use of the chatbot, like Deutsche Bank, which is developing its own A.I. tools, as well as JPMorgan Chase.

In Europe, Italy has temporarily banned the service and the EU is close to passing a new law governing A.I.’s use in the EU.

Meanwhile, companies like Coca-Cola and Bain & Company have already established partnerships with OpenAI.
