ChatGPT Now Available on iPhone Without Need for Internet Connection

Date:

Now available on iPhone, ChatGPT is an AI based app that allows users to converse with the AI without internet connection. Developed by MLC AI, an open-source project known as MLC LLM is making this technology accessible across different platforms. The app can be downloaded as a TestFlight, allowing developers to test the app which is currently a 4GB download. It is also available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as an online demo version.

So far, testing the ChatGPT app on an iPhone 13 Pro has given useful tips, however it has been running quite slow. The design is fairly simple, following a similar structure to Apple’s iMessage app. One example query, a plot for a ‘Back to the Future Part 4’ movie, took five minutes for the AI to answer, and prompting it to create a Tic Tac Toe game in Swift UI took about 20 minutes. What is unique about ChatGPT is that the app does not require the device to have AI managing the platform which reduces the burden from the device.

Therefore, while it is impressive what the app offers, it is not recommended to use the app frequently. If you are looking for a ChatGPT app for your iPhone, Petey is a better choice, and while MLC LLM is an ambitious project, it still needs some improvement before being called fully reliable and useable.
