YouTube star Casey Neistat recently released a funny and unexpected vlog, and it had nothing to do with one of his regular videos. Instead, Casey asked the new AI-powered ChatGPT tool to write the script for the three to four minute vlog. The end result was a creative and often unintentionally hilarious vlog featuring Casey exploring Downtown Manhattan.
The vlog started out with a shot of Manhattan from a drone, and then delved into a tour of downtown. While the chatbot’s artificial intelligence wasn’t able to write a script with much originality, the video did contain Casey’s trademark electric skateboard action. Along the way, Casey and his wife, Candice Pool, were featured in a short cameo as they discussed some of their top secret projects.
Despite the robotic feel of the video and a script lacking any semblance of humanity, the vlog was actually quite enjoyable. At the end of it, Casey cheekily proclaimed that it was the “worst video he’s ever made”. He made it clear that it lacked a soul, something that comes from human creativity, and lamented that GPT-4 could have done a better job with its writing had he provided it with more creative directives.
Although Casey even went on to express his concerns about what GPT-4 and other AI-powered tools could do to creative works in the future, in one instance he recognized their potential. He remarked on how his eight-year old daughter enjoyed a story that GPT-4 wrote for her and he concedes it was as compelling as any other children’s book.
