Cambodia’s youth has achieved a remarkable triumph in the field of machine learning in health. Three young representatives from Cambodia secured second place in a recent international competition, which featured participants from 92 nations. This outstanding achievement demonstrates the country’s growing prowess in the field of technology and innovation.
The competition, known as the Kaggle Competition for Machine Learning in Health, was part of the prestigious Oxford Machine Learning Summer School (OXML 2023). Organized by AI for Global Goals in partnership with Oxford Deep Medicine and CIFAR, the event attracted around 1,100 participants, with about 80% of them coming from academia.
The successful team, named Yet Another AI Team (YAAT), comprised Buoy Rina, an applied artificial intelligence (AI) researcher from the Techo Startup Centre (TSC); Phy Vitou, a software developer at INDEED; and Sov Kimkhung, a business intelligence analyst at Phillip Bank. Their impressive performance in the competition earned them second place and brought great pride to their nation.
In recognition of their achievement, the Techo Startup Centre (TSC) congratulated the team on social media and highlighted their remarkable performance. The announcement also mentioned that the essay contest is being organized by Startup Cambodia in collaboration with the TSC. This initiative aims to provide individuals with an opportunity to express their personal perspectives on Cambodia’s digital revolution.
Startup Cambodia is a national program led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with a mission to support local startups and build a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country. The program plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and technological advancements in Cambodia.
Moreover, the TSC invited potential candidates to partake in the inaugural season of the Youth Essay Writing Contest. This contest, which is open for submissions until July 30, encourages participants to offer their insights and ideas regarding Cambodia’s digital transformation. The essay contest is financially supported by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and the Capacity Building Research and Development Fund (CBRD Fund).
The essay contest provides a platform for students, innovators, and the public to share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with utilizing digital platforms, goods, and services in Cambodia. Participants are encouraged to write from various viewpoints, such as being a student, startup founder, business owner, or policymaker. The contest offers the chance to win an award and have their voices heard in discussions about Cambodia’s digital revolution.
This remarkable achievement in the field of machine learning in health reflects Cambodia’s growing potential in technology and innovation. It is a testament to the country’s efforts to nurture and support young talents.
