Due to the rules and regulations enforced, Apple had two options if they wanted to avoid using a Lightning port: introduce USB-C exclusively for the European market or use it for their entire range of products across the globe. Opting for the latter, all new iPhones now charge via USB-C instead of Lightning, making it simpler to charge any iOS device with the same cable and power adapter.
However, other Apple products such as the AirPods, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard, and original Apple Pencil still utilize Lightning port, as they have not been updated to use USB-C yet. But it looks like Apple is looking into switching towards MagSafe wireless charging technology that they’ve incorporated with the iPhone 12 alongside the upcoming QR2 standard, which can provide faster charging. Ultimately, this could lead to Apple eventually creating a portless all-display iPhone.
