This week, Amazon made headlines with its notable announcement that it has sold more than 500 million Alexa enabled devices. Alongside Amazon’s newest Echo line featuring the Echo Pop, the Echo Show 5, the Echo Show 5 for Kids, and the Echo Buds wireless earbuds, they also made announcements vowing to bring ChatGPT-type AI to Alexa. Amazon’s virtual assistant was one of the original AI-powered voice technologies and they do not intend to leave it behind. Conversation AI has recently been popular, hence, Amazon has been striving to develop and integrate similar products and capabilities into their line of products.
Amazon is embracing its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, introducing Alexa Teacher – a large-language model (LLM) that will make Alexa smarter and more conversational. Last year alone, the company saw an increase in Alexa’s use, which resulted in the integration of Alexa into thousands of products from manufacturers, ranging from clocks, televisions and even vehicles. When asked, Rohit Prasad, Senior Vice President and Head Scientist for Alexa, shared that Amazon is investing heavily in generative AI, making sure that Alexa stays ahead of the game.
With the impact that AI-powered voice technologies have had on the tech industry, it is safe to say that Amazon holds an important seat at the table. Their extensive user base and impressive range of devices have made Alexa one of the most advanced and popular virtual assistants to date. We eagerly await to see the future advancements they make with their large-language model and AI technology.
