Amazon is restructuring its cloud computing services, according to a leaked internal email. The company is creating a new team called AWS Compute Services, which will bring together services such as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Lambda, and other container and serverless products. These changes aim to streamline operations and better serve customers. Additionally, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has formed a new team focused on assisting customers in utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology on its cloud platform.
EC2 allows users to scale their cloud usage on AWS using virtual servers, while Lambda and other serverless products enable customers to run applications on the cloud without server management. The integration of these services into one team is expected to enhance coordination and understanding of goals and challenges, ultimately driving efficiency and delivering more value to customers.
Holly Mesrobian, the vice president of Serverless and Compute, now reports directly to Dave Brown, the AWS vice president leading EC2 and the newly formed organization. Mesrobian continues to oversee services like Elastic Container Services, Lambda, and Serverless Compute Fabric. Additionally, the Events and Workflow team, currently managed by director Usman Khalid, will join Mesrobian’s team.
This organizational restructuring also affects other leaders within AWS. Barry Cooks, the vice president in charge of the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, now reports to Brown. Jody Gibney, the general manager responsible for Elastic Container Registry, will report to Cooks.
The creation of a separate team dedicated to generative AI technology reflects Amazon’s recognition of the growing demand in the AI sector. Deepak Singh, the vice president who previously oversaw AWS containers and serverless products, has been assigned to lead this new team.
Amazon’s reorganization is driven by the desire to align departments, increase collaboration, and adapt to changing market needs. By consolidating related services and establishing specialized teams, the company aims to provide a more seamless and efficient experience for its customers. As the cloud computing industry continues to evolve, Amazon’s restructuring positions the company to effectively meet the demands and challenges of the future.
