Igor Babuschkin, a DeepMind alum and former Senior Director of Engineering for Twitter, was arrested in March related to a domestic violence incident. According to the Palo Alto Police Department, officers responding to a call at 588 Webster Street determined that a misdemeanor domestic violence incident had occurred and Babuschkin posted bond on a $10,000 bail later the same evening. The Santa Clara District Attorney’s office has since declined to bring any formal charges against Babuschkin.
Babuschkin had recently joined Twitter at the time of his arrest, due to a hiring brought on by Elon Musk. Musk, the infamous entrepreneur and investor, had been attempting to recruit individuals to build an AI-powered chatbot rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Before joining Twitter, Babuschkin was employed by DeepMind, Google’s AI subsidiary, for many years.
Elon Musk’s efforts to develop an AI-based chatbot sparked when he criticized the oftentimes ‘woke’ behaviours of Artificial Intelligence. Afterward, he founded his own AI startup and incorporated X.AI Corp. Musk also gathered thousands of GPU processors to assist in his AI ambitions.
MUsk had not responded to Insider’s comments request which was sent to his Tesla and SpaceX emails. Twitter on the other hand, only gave a poop emoji auto-response.
