The advent of technology has certainly revolutionized the way we lead our lives. In the age of AI, chatbots have become an integral part of people’s day-to-day activities. But, the possibility of humans building a Frankenstein’s monster is a critical concern to address. Some feel that the technological advancements will not be drastic enough to cause disruption to the current job market. However, a section of people fear that AI will take away most of the blue- and white-collar jobs, leaving no hope for working people.
OpenAI, a research lab backed by Microsoft, recently announced its new GPT-4 language model. In response, to a user’s query the model accepted that it may replace at least 20 jobs, including jobs in the list of market research analyst, social media manager, copywriter, tutor, travel agent, etc. In addition, Google has also released its own chatbot Bard in the US and UK, allowing users to join the waiting list for the same.
While these chatbots aim to automate routine and scheduled tasks, some worry that the AI technologies could lead to massive disasters if not used properly. Thus, to protect citizens from this threat and use the technology properly, there have been calls to have an AI specific legal framework and international policy in place.
Having said that, chatbots can also be seen as wealth-making options and can certainly be used to help people in need. Companies are developing these AI technology tools with the aim to automate routine tasks and help their employees to focus more on the more important processes. Also, the fact that these tech-giants are accepting that the products should not produce 100% accurate results, shows they are aware of the consequences of any malfunction.
Overall, there needs to be a sense of control and caution while using these technologies. It is highly important to ensure that AI works for the benefit of humans and not the other way around.
