Adapting Education System to New Technologies like ChatGPT – Nationwide 90FM

Date:

The President of the National Parent Teachers Association of Jamaica, NPTAJ, Stewart Jacobs, recently argued that the education system must make strides to incorporate modern technologies such as ChatGPT in order to properly prepare students for the future. ChatGPT is a recent development in artificial intelligence which utilizes a chatbot on multiple platforms to teach various topics.

Stewart Jacobs urged schools to think ahead and institute proper measures and protocols that ensure that important skills such as creative writing are not lost as a result of relying on these applications. While he acknowledges that these technologies offer students valuable experiences and knowledge, he also cautioned against a potential negative effect on education.

NPTAJ was founded in 1968 as a national body advocating for the interests of students’ parents, teachers, and other stakeholders. Throughout the years, the organization works towards improving the education system by advocating for issues such as policy reform, the well-being of students, and protection of the environment, and more. Additionally, they provide support to individual schools, including showcasing student talents and encouraging a safe school environment.

Stewart Jacobs has served as President of NPTAJ since 2005, and works to ensure that Jamaica’s education system is up-to-date and adjusts with the modern advances in technology. As a result of his advocacy, the organization is well-known for spearheading initiatives on technology in the classroom, such as the establishment of a digital literacy program and various technology tools for student learning resources.

In today’s age of technology, ChatGPT has proven itself to be an invaluable tool for learning, especially for students in need of supplemental instruction. Nevertheless, Stewart Jacobs warns schools to consider the potential implications and be wise in incorporating these new technologies into the curriculum. With proper implementation, students can utilize ChatGPT to further strengthen their educational experiences.
