OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company, has just announced new privacy features for its ChatGPT, a conversational agent that is used for making conversations. Now, users of ChatGPT can opt-out and have their conversations withheld from being used for AI training. In a blog post released on April 25, 2023, OpenAI stated that users will be able to toggle the ‘Chat History’ button in the app’s settings, which will prevent conversations from being used to improve the AI models.
Additionally, OpenAI has also provided an ‘Export’ option in ChatGPT, making it easier to transfer or backup conversations. With this option, users can receive a copy of their conversations and other relevant data via email. OpenAI has additionally stated that conversations will be retained only for 30 days and will be permanently deleted after they are reviewed against abuse.
OpenAI also expressed its commitment to protecting user privacy, saying it provides ‘the easiest way to manage data’. OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a research laboratory for artificial intelligence, based in San Francisco. It is recognised for its contributions in the fields of machine learning and natural language processing, with its motto being ‘Making AI More Human’.
The co-founder and CEO of OpenAI is Sam Altman, an American entrepreneur, investor, programmer, and writer, best known as the president of Y Combinator from 2014 to 2018 during its most productive years. Altman is well-known for his faith in applications of Artificial Intelligence. He has also written about his work and provided insights in various interviews.
