OpenAI Launches DALL-E 3 Watermark to Prevent AI Misuse
OpenAI, one of the leading artificial intelligence (AI) research organizations, has introduced the DALL-E 3 watermark system to address concerns regarding the misuse of AI-generated images. The watermark system aims to establish the provenance of images created by the platform as being AI-generated. Thus, an image lacking this metadata may still have been generated by AI, making watermarking an imperfect solution.
OpenAI’s initiative aligns with the efforts of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a collective that includes tech giants Microsoft and Adobe. CR watermarks, developed by Adobe, will enable users to determine the AI platform responsible for generating an image and verify its authenticity. This step is crucial in reducing the misuse of AI-generated content and establishing trust and authenticity in digital media.
OpenAI assures that integrating watermark metadata into DALL-E 3 images will have minimal impact on latency and image quality. However, the file size of the images is expected to increase as a result of the additional data, ranging from 3% to 32% per image.
