AI Scientist Discusses Replacing Human Tasks with Future ChatGPT Models

Date:

Ben Goertzel, a well-known Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher and cognitive scientist, has warned that the next version of ChatGPT, a new large language modelling AI, has the potential to replace many human tasks. He is widely known for his development of Sophia the Robot. Goertzel has said that using automated AI tools can lead to restructuring of job roles and changing the duties of a particular job. Already, many drive-through fast-food workers, copy editors, and designers have been affected by the use of AI. For instance, online grammar checkers like Grammarly has reduced the need for manual copy editors.

The Chinese-based marketing and public relations company, BlueFocus, is an example of a company that has embraced the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT, eliminating the need for third-party copywriters, designers, and short-term contractors.

In the first quarter of 2020, the number of apps that have the term “AI Chatbot” or “AI Chat” in either the app name, subtitle, or description on both Google and Apple App Store have seen a tremendous 1,480 percent increase year-over-year. According to analytics firm Apptopia, there has been a sharp rise of 158 apps dealing with “AI Chat” in the first quarter of this year.

However, there are some jobs where the essence is human contact, such as preschool teachers, political strategists and artists, which are likely to be least affected by AI. Ben Goertzel appreciates the power of computer networks and multi-GPU server farms and said that today’s generative AIs are able to conduct amazing activities without having to resort to creativity and innovation.
