Monzo Advises Job Seekers to Avoid Using ChatGPT

Date:

Monzo, a fintech company, has issued a disclaimer for their job advertisements, warning that any applications that have relied on external support, such as ChatGPT, are immediately invalid and will be disqualified. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot software released by Silicon Valley firm OpenAI in November, and is a writing tool used to replicate human-like sentences and responses.

ChatGPT is popularly used to craft resumes, cover letters, and even fill out job applications. A survey conducted by US-based recruitment website Resume Builder showed that almost half of their respondents did so. Monzo has added this warning so as to preemptively protect their applicants from any potential cheating by using third-party entities or ChatGPT, as fears of data being compromised, or inaccurate information being provided, rise.

Monzo also isn’t the only one to be worried about ChatGPT, City of London banks and firms, such as JP Morgan and Mishcon de Reya, have banned their staff from using the tool. This is on top of universities and schools restricting the usage of the software in the fear that their students may abuse it to write their essays for them.

ChatGPT has worried many due to its capability of producing human-like sentences, and the way it can be misinterpreted. This has led to the AI chatbot providing irrational and even dangerous answers, making it a huge risk to handle sensitive data or information.

Overall, it is important to note that Monzo’s measure of issuing a warning is a preventive step they have taken in order to maintain a safe and secure job application process. All applicants are recommended not to rely on third party help or assistance in order to submit their applications, so they can be considered fairly.
