Top Military Leaders to Discuss National Security at Five-Day Conference Starting Monday

Top commanders of the Indian Army will convene a five-day conference to review national security challenges along India’s borders with China and Pakistan, as well as ways to boost the Army’s combat capability. The conclave which is set to take place from Monday will also investigate the ongoing reform process of the 1.3 million-strong force, as well as the utilization of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and virtual reality.

Former foreign secretary and India’s former ambassador to Beijing, Vijay Gokhale, is anticipated to discuss the future contours of India-China relations during the conference. It will also evaluate the ‘Year of Transformation-2023’ plan implemented by the Indian Army, together with the progress made in the Agnipath Scheme, as well as in digitization and automation initiatives.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is preparing to address the conference on April 19, at which an equipment display with a special focus on innovative technology, surveillance, AI, training, robotics, virtual reality, and operational logistics is scheduled.

The conference is going to commence with a detailed review of the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), taking into account the three-year border dispute in the eastern Ladakh region. Vijay Gokhale, is a retired Indian diplomat who served as the secretary of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and was appointed as the Indian Ambassador to China in 2017-2018.
