OpenAI, a startup led by Sam Altman, has announced the release of new features for ChatGPT, its powerful conversational robot, to compete with other artificial intelligence (AI) sectors. The latest release includes a function called Function Call, which enables developers to describe programming functions and allows GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 to generate appropriate code. With this feature, developers can create chatbots that can perform multiple functions, help answer queries, and convert natural language into database queries and structured data.
In addition to Function Call, OpenAI is introducing a larger context window in GPT-3.5 Turbo. The context window measures in tokens or chunks of raw text, which refers to the text that the model considers before generating content. Compared to the previous version, it offers four times the context length (16,000 tokens) of the vanilla GPT-3.5 Turbo at twice the price. Even though OpenAI claims it can generate up to 20 pages of text in one go, it is relatively lower than Anthropic’s flagship model Claude, which can process hundreds of pages.
OpenAI announces a 25% reduction in the cost of GPT-3.5 Turbo and TEXT-embedding ada-002. Developers can now use the model for $0.0015 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.002 per 1,000 output tokens. TEXT-embedding ada-002 is now available for $0.0001 for 1,000 tokens, which is a 75% reduction from the initial price. According to OpenAI, it can afford to reduce prices due to the increased efficiency of its systems, which is a key factor for the startup’s success. OpenAI spends hundreds of millions of dollars on research and infrastructure to improve its offerings.
Through the introduction of these new features, OpenAI will enhance the accessibility of its product to a more extensive range of internet users globally. The new policy will assist in creating a more competitive environment while giving more consumers access to its product.
