Microsoft has unveiled a new cloud data and analytics platform called Microsoft Fabric that industry analysts say sets it ahead of competitors Amazon and Google in the cloud sector. The suite of tools allows enterprise customers to store, manage and analyse data from all sectors of their applications. Called a “significant advancement,” it features a single data lake called OneLake that accommodates all kinds of data from external sources, offering cost savings, flexibility, data quality, transparency and governance. The platform is currently in public preview mode and will later be updated with additional features. While Amazon’s AWS currently enjoys an overall revenue lead over Microsoft’s Azure, analysts suggest Microsoft Fabric could give it an advantage over Amazon and Google in terms of enterprise analytics and data capability.
