Recent trends in Google searches since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence tool in late November 2022 have been analyzed by the Digital Skills Academy CodeClan. According to these findings, Oxford and Cambridge rank within the top three UK cities for searches on ChatGPT, with an average of 9,900 searches per month in Oxford alone, which is equivalent to 61 people in every 1,000.
ChatGPT is a powerful chatbot AI which has been developed by OpenAI, combining the words ‘chat’ for its chatbot functionality and ‘GPT’ for generative pre-trained transformer – a form of large language model.
OpenAI is a San Francisco-based Artificial Intelligence research laboratory founded in 2015, with the aim to develop advanced AI technologies into the public domain in order to benefit humanity. OpenAI is backed by tech giants such as Amazon, Microsoft and NVIDIA. Microsoft recently partnered with OpenAI in order to directly benefit its Azure cloud platform.
