Tom Hanks is a renowned Hollywood star who believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology can eventually make it possible for him to continue appearing in films even after his death. On The Adam Buxton Podcast, Hanks discussed how he could take advantage of AI deep fake technology and explain why he believes audiences won’t be able to tell the difference between him and a “deep fake”.
Hanks himself is reteaming with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis for the movie Here for which he is contemplating using AI technology to de-age him. He has also voiced his opinions on the legal implications of using such technology and how agents are currently in the process of drawing up contracts to protect actors’. Hanks is also starring in the star-studded multi-starrer comedy film Asteriod City that features Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie.
Most recently, Hanks has also signed onto voice a new wildlife series called The Americas.
AI technology has already taken a huge leap in Hollywood and it’s clear many stars are apprehensive about its future implications for the industry. Nevertheless, Tom Hanks has used his influence to bring attention to the issue and is increasingly aware of its legal ramifications for actors. Only time will tell how actors will benefit in the long-term from the novel technology.
